Another Earthquake Devastates a foreign country---Japan 3-11-11. Are you prepared in the U.S?

Natori, Miyagi prefecture (state), Japan after the 8.9 Magnitude earthquake hit on March 11th and the Tsunami it caused.

Most people do not realize it but we have small earthquakes every day.  Over 700 to be exact.  While most are 3.5-5.0 and can barely be felt it doesn't mean that couldn't change on a dime.  Are you willing to gamble that one of those 700 will not devastate your life?  How many people truly have emergency preparedness kits?  If you do not you need to get one started ASAP.  Here is what you will to survive the quake below.

1. Most people think the doorway is the safest place.  Not True In most modern houses every room is built the same and therefore you are better off using the duck and cover method under a large sturdy piece of furniture.

2. Have Disaster Supplies on Hand
  • Flashlight and extra batteries.
  • Portable battery-operated radio and extra batteries.
  • First aid kit and manual.
  • Emergency food and water.
  • Nonelectric can opener.
  • Essential medicines.
  • Cash and credit cards.
  • Sturdy shoes.
3. Talk to your family and get a plan.  Do not wait until the day of the earthquake to scream---"Sally...RUN!!!".  Decide which room everyone will go to and where.

4.  Know the phone numbers.  After a disaster, cell phones may not work.  You can't Google the Redcross.  You will have to go old school and write it down.

5.  DO NOT RUN OUTSIDE.  If you are outside move away from buildings but if you are not, running will not help you, if you can't see the buildings falling above your head.

This is a small list but likely all one person can remember in a moment like that.  Stay calm to stay Alive!
